Overview
The PASMA Towers for Users course is designed to provide individuals with the essential skills and knowledge needed to safely use mobile access towers. Mobile access towers are widely used for tasks such as maintenance, construction, inspections, and other work at height tasks, and this course ensures users can work with these towers safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with current safety regulations.
This course combines theoretical learning with practical exercises to teach participants the correct assembly, use, and dismantling of mobile access towers, as well as the required safety checks to ensure the tower is in safe working condition before use. At the end of the course, participants will be fully qualified to use mobile access towers in a variety of work environments, minimising risk and ensuring high standards of safety.
Who Should Attend?
The PASMA Towers for Users course is suitable for anyone who works at height using mobile access towers, including those who are new to tower use or need to refresh their knowledge. It is particularly beneficial for:
- Construction workers, tradespeople, and site workers who need to work at height using mobile access towers
- Maintenance and repair personnel working at elevated levels
- Cleaners, inspectors, and those involved in tasks such as window cleaning, painting, or electrical maintenance
- Supervisors and site managers who are responsible for overseeing safe working practices involving access towers
- Health and safety professionals involved in planning or managing work at height
No prior experience with mobile access towers is required, making this course suitable for beginners or anyone needing a refresher.
What You’ll Learn
The PASMA Towers for Users course covers a wide range of essential topics related to working safely at height with mobile access towers, including:
- Introduction to Mobile Access Towers: Overview of mobile access towers, their different types, and how they are used in various industries. This includes a focus on understanding when a tower is the appropriate access solution.
- Legal and Regulatory Requirements: Understanding the relevant safety regulations and legislation, including the Work at Height Regulations (UK), PASMA standards, and employer/employee responsibilities for safe working practices.
- Risk Assessment and Planning: How to assess risks associated with working at height and evaluate the suitability of mobile access towers for specific tasks. Participants will also learn how to plan and prepare a safe worksite before using mobile access equipment.
- Tower Components: Familiarisation with the parts of a mobile access tower, including base plates, casters, guardrails, working platforms, and stabilisers, and understanding how each part contributes to safety and stability.
- Assembly and Dismantling Procedures: Step-by-step instructions for safely assembling and dismantling a mobile access tower, including the correct procedures for locking components into place and ensuring the tower is stable and secure.
- Safe Use of Mobile Access Towers: Techniques for using a mobile access tower safely, including proper positioning, safe climbing practices, maintaining three points of contact, and ensuring stability while working at height.
- Pre-use Inspections and Maintenance: The importance of conducting daily safety checks to ensure the tower is in good working condition. Participants will learn how to inspect the tower for damage or wear and identify common hazards before use.
- Working Safely on the Tower: How to work safely on a mobile access tower, including best practices for maintaining balance, managing tools and materials while on the platform, and using fall protection when necessary.
- Emergency Procedures: What to do in case of an emergency, including safe evacuation techniques, dealing with malfunctions or accidents, and responding to sudden weather changes or other site risks.
Certification & Assessment
Upon successful completion of the PASMA Towers for Users course, participants will receive:
- PASMA Towers for Users Certification – issued digitally via the PASMA app, giving instant access to your verified training record.
- PASMA Photo ID Card (Digital) – available within the app, confirming the individual is certified to use mobile access towers in compliance with PASMA standards and safety regulations.
Assessment: The course includes both a theoretical and practical assessment:
Written Exam: Participants must pass a short multiple-choice test that covers the key concepts of tower safety, regulations, assembly procedures, and risk management.
Practical Assessment: Participants must demonstrate their ability to assemble, use, and dismantle a mobile access tower safely, showing their competence in carrying out pre-use checks and working effectively at height.
Validity: The PASMA certification is valid for 5 years. After this period, participants must complete a revalidation course to ensure they remain compliant with current standards and regulations.
By completing the PASMA Towers for Users course, participants will gain the confidence and skills to use mobile access towers safely and efficiently. This certification ensures that workers understand the importance of safety when working at height and are able to comply with the legal requirements and best practices, reducing the risk of accidents on site and promoting a culture of safety.
