The course is practical and hands-on, with participants having the opportunity to practice their skills in realistic scenarios. The Emergency First Aid at Work course covers a wide range of life-saving techniques and essential knowledge, including:
- The Role of the First Aider: Understanding the responsibilities and limitations of a first aider, including how to assess and manage an emergency situation.
- Basic Life Support (BLS): How to perform CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) effectively and safely, including dealing with choking and providing rescue breaths and chest compressions.
- Dealing with Burns and Scalds: How to treat thermal injuries, including the treatment for minor and severe burns.
- Wounds and Bleeding: How to manage cuts, grazes, and more serious wounds, including bleeding control through direct pressure, elevation, and the use of dressings and bandages.
- Treating Shock: Recognising the signs of shock and how to provide appropriate care to prevent it from worsening.
- Seizures: How to manage a person having a seizure, including ensuring their safety and what to do when they regain consciousness.
- Choking: How to recognise and respond to someone who is choking, including techniques for clearing an obstructed airway.
- Health and Safety in First Aid: The importance of ensuring both the first aider and the casualty are kept safe, including personal protective equipment (PPE) use and the importance of accident reporting.
Certification & Assessment
Upon successful completion of the Emergency First Aid at Work course, participants will receive:
Emergency First Aid at Work Certificate: This certificate is valid for 3 years, demonstrating that the individual is qualified to act as a first aider in the workplace.
Assessment: The assessment is carried out through practical demonstration and oral questioning. Scenarios will be set to allow you to demonstrate the skills and knowledge you have gained.
Participants will be required to demonstrate key first aid skills, such as performing CPR, managing bleeding, and treating a choking victim. This hands-on assessment ensures that participants can apply their learning in real emergency situations.
Validity: The Emergency First Aid at Work certification is valid for 3 years from the date of issue. To maintain certification, participants are required to undertake the full one day course again
